Turning it into a photo calendar

To make a free photo calendar, click Upload photo under "Photo background" and choose an image from your device. It's resized and processed entirely inside your browser — nothing is ever uploaded to a server, which is why it works even offline. Use the Opacity slider to fade the photo back so the dates stay easy to read, and choose Cover to fill the page edge-to-edge (cropping the photo slightly) or Contain to keep the whole photo visible. The preview shows the exact crop and opacity that gets embedded in your downloaded PDF.

Tips for printing

Print at "Actual Size" or "100%" — not "Fit to page" — so the paper size you picked (Letter or A4) prints edge-to-edge as designed. If you're making a wall calendar, landscape orientation with a photo background usually looks best; for a desk or binder calendar, portrait with notes lines works well. For a family or team calendar, try the full-year view for a single-page overview, then print individual months separately for the wall.

Pair a month with a photo from that season — snow scenes for January, blossoms for April, beach shots for July — for a simple 12-month wall calendar you print one page at a time. Where you put it changes how you use it

The right paper size and orientation depends on where the calendar will actually live for the next 30 days — not on what looks best in the preview. Before you download, decide on wall, fridge, or desk, because each spot rewards a different setup.

Wall calendar: landscape, one month, big cells

A calendar taped or framed on a wall gets glanced at from a few feet away, so landscape orientation with a photo background reads better than a dense grid — you want the date and maybe two or three words per day, not paragraphs. Generate one page per month in Monthly mode, set the accent color to something visible at a distance, and skip the notes lines; there's no room to write comfortably at wall height anyway. If you're using a photo, keep opacity around 25–35% so the dates stay legible over the image.

Fridge calendar: portrait, notes lines on, magnetic clip

A fridge calendar gets read up close and written on daily, so turn on notes lines and use portrait orientation — it fits better on a standard fridge door and leaves space below the grid for a running grocery list or reminder. This is also the spot where weekly meal plans or trash and recycling pickup days are worth writing in by hand once, since the whole household walks past it multiple times a day.

Desk or binder: portrait, no photo, notes lines on

For a desk calendar or a page inserted into a planner binder, skip the photo — it adds file size and visual noise you don't need at arm's length — and keep notes lines on for jotting quick to-dos next to a date. US Letter portrait fits a standard 3-ring binder with a 3-hole punch; A4 works the same way for European binders.

Building a family command center

A family command center is just a wall or cabinet door with a full-year overview and each family member's monthly page side by side. Generate the Full year view first and pin it as the master reference, then generate individual Monthly pages for the weeks that actually need detail — sports practice, appointments, school events. Assign each family member a different accent color when you generate their page (a soccer practice month in orange, a piano lesson month in blue) so that at a glance, everyone can tell whose activity is whose without reading the fine print. Print landscape if wall space allows two or three pages side by side, or portrait if you're stacking pages vertically on a cabinet door.

Because this tool saves your settings in the browser, switching between family members' calendars is just a matter of changing the accent color and any names in the notes area, then re-downloading — you don't have to rebuild the layout from scratch every time.

Planning by school year or fiscal year instead of January–December

Not every calendar needs to start in January. Because this generator supports any year from 2020 through 2035 and lets you pick any starting month, you can build an academic-year set that runs August (or September) through the following July or August, one page per month, instead of a standard January–December set. This matches how families, teachers, and students actually think about the year — a school year overlaps two calendar years, and a single wall calendar that resets in January mid-year is awkward for tracking semesters, sports seasons, or a summer break.

The same approach works for a business or household running on a fiscal year: generate individual months in the order your fiscal year actually runs (say, July through June), and use the notes lines for budget deadlines, quarterly review dates, or renewal reminders. Because each month is generated separately, you can mix and match — landscape wall pages for the months with more going on, compact portrait pages for quiet months — without committing to one layout for all twelve.
